Minutes of St. Paul's Annual Meeting
January 28, 2007
The meeting reconvened, after the vicar's report had been given in the context of the service, at 11:30, with 25 people present. Rev. Gregory Jacobs and Brother Reginald Crenshaw joined us for the meeting.
- The Altar Guild report was presented and discussed.
- Julian Fredie, diocesan consultant on the state of the building, reported on the state of the buildings. An engineer's report has identified the problems in both the Davis Building and the church which will have to be addressed. It was determined that the Davis Building be closed and sold. We are preparing a proposal to receive permission from the diocese to sell the building. The church facility looks worse than it is. Most of the problems are due to neglect: roofing, gutters, etc. Items will be prioritized. Repairs will probably take the next five years. Various things will have to be brought up to code: accessibility, electricity, etc. Interior repairs include paint, plaster, and other easy things. Once the roof is repaired so that it doesn't leak on the organ pipes, the organ can be rebuilt. So, in five years, this church should be up to code, in good shape, and ready for the next 120 years of service. Julian thanked Rick Walker for his dedication.
- Treasurer's Report:
Net actual operating shortfall, after exceptional expenses and income have been subtracted, of $54,073.29
Charlie explained that loose stocks had been transferred to the UBS for management. The congregation discussed the kind of stocks that the church owns and might want to own.
Proposed budget is a shortfall budget of $56,457. It was noted that we have twenty or fewer pledging units.
- Jackie added that St. Paul's Table is moving toward incorporation as a 501(c)3, which would allow it to apply for grants. The parish subsidizes the soup kitchen about $6,000 a year. As a 501(c)3 it could receive these funds from other sources. This and other steps contribute to responsibly running this social service agency in a clean, tidy and safe way. The kitchen had contributions of over $20,000 this year, including several congregations and several pages of individuals that give monthly.
- The meeting expressed a desire to do something about the McMenamy's on the corner of Pleasant and Warren.
- Report of the Nominating Committee
Ellie Wentworth presented the report. By acclamation, the meeting approved the slate of office holders. Jackie emphasized the critical importance of lay leadership.
Officers for 2007 will be co-wardens Lillet Blake and Eleanor Wentworth, clerk Elizabeth Vann, treasurer Charles Davis, Desrine Mignotte, Joanne Lai Choy, Henry Thayer, and diocesan consultant Julian Fredie.
- Closing remarks
Gregory Jacobs congratulated the meeting on the work done yesterday at the meeting with Brother Reginald. He especially emphasized the covenant, recalling that in covenant, God is faithful to us, and we must live in to that covenant. The meeting closed in prayer led by the Rev. Mr. Jacobs, at 12:30.
